Tove Hirth MA (RCA)
sculptor bronzecaster
Two
At the beginning there is a notion, a sensation of sorts, an idea and the desire to act on it, do something with it. For me it always starts with and derives from the body: the female body in particular, my own, others. It is where I always begin and where it ends – the work is what happens in between, the outcome of the process of transformation.

I am a figurative sculptor. I describe myself in this way because my work has always started from and is essentially about the human body.

I work primarily in bronze, modelling pieces in clay or directly in wax before casting. Sculptures range from 10 cm high to life sized, although much of my work is between 10 and 50 cm high. I trained in bronzecasting at the Royal College of Art in London and choose to finish and patinate all my own work. In the past I have also cast many of my own pieces.

I have exhibited in Scotland, England and Norway and have also sold work and undertaken commissions for clients in Japan and Germany. A life size public commission is installed in Jevnaker, Norway.

This website is a way of introducing you to my work, recent projects and commissions and future plans. You can find images of past and recent work, an up to date CV and news of upcoming events and projects.
