Doing a portrait bust of my grandfather was a daunting challenge. I had not done a portrait before and I so wanted to capture something of him. It was nervewracking to work from photographs but it was worth it when I saw the reaction of my grandfather and others when the bust was unveiled at a family wedding in Norway last summer. My grandfather gave a speech (several in the course of the three day wedding!) and as he broke into song sitting next to the bust, we all cried a little. He is an amazing man and I am grateful to have had the opportunity to make his portrait.
