I was commissioned to make this piece for the Edinburgh Film Festival, after the director saw my first solo show in 1995. I wanted it to be about triumph, that intense joy felt when one has achieved something outstanding. I chose a pose I hoped would be instantly recognisable – a figure raising her arms in pride, rejoicing.
