artists statement
I am a figurative artist. The beginning of the process is always the human body. It is where I begin and it is where it ends. My work is the product of a process of transformation where I start with an impression, a movement or an experience and try to capture this in a three dimensional form.
I use the human form because it is through this that we experience joy, pain and sorrow – and therefore it is the strongest symbol accessible to me. My sculptures can be experienced as they are – a physical description in three dimensional form – and it can also be a memory, a feeling – a moment. For me they are personal, something I have experiences, felt or seen, but I hope and experience often that the viewer might have completely different associations. This will never be incorrect – only an affirmation of arts ability to make us think, feel and reflect upon our lives.
